about

My name is Rockie Nolan. I am a twenty-two year old girl from a tumbleweed town in Texas. I am a photographer with a love for stories. There was a time when I didn't understand the point of fashion photography. It once felt very distant to me because it seemed impossible to relate to as a girl from such a small town who could never dream of adorning herself in such expensive things. When I discovered the possibilites for storytelling that fashion photography offers, it transformed all of these models who felt so distant, so above me, into characters. When I stopped viewing models as some reality I was unable to reach but rather as depictions of characters, fashion no longer felt superficial but rather analogous to my own thoughts.

I enjoy dressing up as a way to personally take on different characters. I can feel my personality and mood often shifting based on what I wear. I am a girl with one thousand dreams and though some of them will most likely never be fulfilled, I feel fortunate to be able to pretend either by the characters I dress up as or the characters made for photographs. This blog serves as a scrapbook to share both endeavors (as well as the dreams which manage to be fulfilled beyond playing pretend).

  3. I am so glad you made this blog- it is wonderful so far. I can especially relate to this. Having always been 'that nerdy kid with a camera', I used to think of fashion photography as rich, pretty, and skinny girls dressing up in expensive clothes. I did not see any depth in fashion photography, and I always wore jeans and a t-shirt. In my school, wearing something more creative to school was seen as posh and immodest. I only became interested in fashion a couple of months ago, after some successful thrifts and experiments with some old clothes I found in my basement. I realized fashion is more accessible than it seems, and it's not just for superficial rich teenagers. I am glad there is someone out there who understands and has felt the same thing :)
