Originally, my only goal with this outfit was to contrast the Victorian top (which was probably actually made in the 60's) with the leather shorts and combat boots. Adding the glittery cape definitely took it back to being more dainty and I felt very much like a little character, so I spent a couple hours in my apartment playing around in the light from the windows. This also might be the first time I've ever taken photos without eye makeup. I usually put some on because otherwise I look very young (and even with I am usually assumed to still be a teenager), but luckily this lip color sort of balances it out so I don't look like a total ghost baby.

The first time I wore this sweater out some kids mistook me as a classmate and made fun of me. A coach also yelled at me for being on the sports field and not running. This time I didn't get teased, but a small child did try and spit on my camera. I think that was just him being a rambunctious kid and not a side effect of wearing this sweater. I guess we'll find out the next time I wear it. I'll definitely avoid walking near any high school lockers, just in case some jocks decide to push me in. (That actually happened to me in elementary school, but reminiscing about my socially awkward history is a chat for another time.)

One of the treats from the past couple of months of life in NYC was attending a blogger brunch sponsored by Victoria's Secret for NYFW. It was held on the penthouse floor of the Dream Hotel in downtown NYC - so lovely! Here are some snippets from the gathering. The last image I nabbed from the lookbook instagram feed (lookbookdotnu). Speaking of, you can click here to view + hype this look on lookbook!

fourteen days in nyc

This past Sunday marked my 14th day as an official, permanent resident of NYC and for the first time in the two weeks since my move, my head is once again bursting with inspiration. I think the overwhelming pressure has finally settled enough for my head to clear enough space for thoughts that aren’t anxiety-ridden. Things are falling into place well and September will be a busy month. It has been nice that my days lately have been filled with familiar faces (both those I'd met before and those who were once only illusions from the internet). These are just a small selection of observations and memories to collect, mostly from an evening at Central Park where a group of us gathered to listen to Beirut perform and from Sunday spent at Coney Island and Pratt.

I shot these (with the assistance of my mom!) months ago when I was living in Texas. I wish I would have made more time for style blogging when I was there because when I moved to NYC a couple weeks ago, I only brought one suitcase of clothes with me and I am now having separation anxiety from all the things still hanging up back home. It's kind of nice having everything in my current possession be able to fit inside one suitcase though. Anyway, I'm posting on lookbook.nu again, you can see this look on there by clicking here.

Egan+Wallace is the label belonging to two talented designer friends of mine. They have been featured in Elle and are currently in the September issue of Nylon. This is part of a lookbook I shot for them back in May. In other news, I moved back to New York City (this time for good) a little over a week ago and now that I am settled, I look forward to having more time to post.
